I was homeless for 3 years and bounced around from couch to couch, city to city. I struggled to balance working and school without a roof over my head. However, I knew in order to change my circumstances I needed to fight for my education, so I took classes when could, even if it meant traveling several hours between cities through disjointed public transportation transfers in 0 degree weather to finish up finals.
Having been fortunate enough to win multiple nationally competitive scholarships that have taken me abroad and afforded me the opportunity to learn a foreign language and study community development, urban planning, and international relations, I plan on pursuing a masters in international strategic management and eventually working as an international development consultant in East Africa.
