Aaron Jeffrey Padden, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Ranger School (NY)

Major: Land Surveying Technology
Graduation Date: May 21, 2016
Not Counted Because: Transferred; Started Part-Time

After my first degree, I was unsatisfied with my career prospects and returned to school. I worked full-time and attended a community college but the workload forced me to reduce my classes to part-time. I was unsatisfied with my progress; I returned to work full-time but knew I needed to return to school. I attended Finger Lakes Community College full-time in the conservation program and my advisor wrote me a recommendation to The Ranger School. The path has been challenging but it’s worth it.

After graduation, I have a summer position with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Region 7 office working with land surveyors regarding state land acquisitions and boundaries. After that, I look forward to employment in the upstate region in the private sector, unless a federal position with the Bureau of Land Management opens up, and then I will relocate out West. In the near term I hope to gain licensure in New York, and in the long term I hope to run my own surveying/engineering/consulting business.
