Back in South Africa, we weren’t encouraged to think differently. We were penalized for having a diverse array of opinions as professors often expected textbook answers. I highly disliked this environment and decided to pursue my academic ambitions in America. I decided to first attend community college in America because of the high cost of 4-year institutions. I chose to transfer to the UR after I graduated from the community college because I wanted to be part of a college that embraced and fostered critical thinking. After graduation, I plan to work as an equity trader for the next year before heading to Brown University for graduate school. After I finish graduate school, I plan to start a hedge fund that will utilize artificial intelligence to exploit statistical arbitrage.

Ever since I heard the famous quote from Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” I began to embrace the true value of education and how it could be leveraged to accomplish my goals. I knew that I had to master a rigorous understanding of macroeconomics and computer science in order to create an intricate software that would aid me in attaining a high alpha.
