University of Maryland Eastern Shore

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), the State’s Historically Black 1890 Land-Grant Institution, is a teaching, research, and doctoral institution that nurtures and launches leaders in a student-centered environment, particularly from among ethnic minorities. UMES, founded in 1886, is ranked in the nation's top tier of "America's Best Black Colleges" by U.S. News & World Report. Committed to providing high quality programs in an ethnically diverse environment, UMES prepares students who will serve and shape the global economy. The distinctiveness of UMES is most evident in the offerings of instruction, research and service programs in major academic clusters including the liberal arts and sciences, agriculture, business, technology, education, environmental and marine sciences, allied health, hospitality, and special academic services. UMES provides 38 undergraduate programs, one 5 Upper Division Certificates, 4 Post- Baccalaureate Certificates, 19 Master’s programs and 10 Doctorate programs with over 3000 students. Its unique programs in the University System of Maryland include Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Bachelor’s Degrees in Aviation Science, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and PGA Golf Management.
