Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, a public, four-year institution, is one of 14 members of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Founded in 1839 as the Bloomsburg Literary Institute, the university currently enrolls over 8,900 undergraduate students in the Colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology and approximately 600 students in graduate programs, including a doctoral program in clinical audiology and a doctor of nursing practice. Ninety percent of the university's students are Pennsylvania residents and approximately 8 percent hail from neighboring New Jersey.
