Founded in 1794, the University of Tennessee is the state’s research-extensive land-grant institution. UT is big on tradition and proud of its humble beginnings as the first public university chartered west of the Appalachian Divide. UT is consistently cited as a best buy and a great value. The university provides comprehensive support to help students achieve their academic goals and engage in campus life. Students can choose from 14 residence halls on campus and 18 living and learning communities. UT's new student union is the university's central hub for students, faculty, and staff to meet, eat, and relax.
